The Saskatchewan Provincial Paintball

Championship Circuit

Operating Policy

The Saskatchewan Provincial Paintball Championship Circuit was founded through the organizing of existing tournaments into a series of events whereby a provincial champion could be determined. Teams score points in each tournament attended towards a total used to determine the champion. The intent is to have a champion that has proven itself capable of excelling at any kind of game on any kind of course.

Composition:

All paintball tournaments will have a Circuit Designation. The three possible designations are 1) Full Circuit Tournament, 2) Satellite Circuit Tournament, 3) Non-Affiliated Tournament. Any event not designated as a Full or Satellite event is deemed to be a Non-affiliated Tournament. The present Circuit consists of 4 events, the Saskatchewan Provincial Speedball Championship Tourney, The Santa Anonymous Tournament, The Stock Classic, and The Share Three Person Speedball Tournament. Additional Satellite Tournaments, (where teams may earn Bonus Points), or Full Circuit Tournaments, may be added or removed from the Circuit at the unanimous decision of the Directors of the Circuit.

Circuit Directors:

The Circuit is administered and organized by the Circuit Directors. To qualify as a Circuit Director a person must be the host promoter of a Full Circuit Tournament, and must apply in writing to the existing Directors for designation as a Circuit Director. They must then be designated as a Circuit Director by a unanimous decision of the existing Directors. Inclusion of a tournament as a Satellite or Full tournament does not make the host promoter a member of the Circuit Directors.

Circuit Directors are responsible for:

a) approving dates for Satellite and Full Circuit tournaments,

b) designating or removing the designation of a tournament as a Satellite or Full Tournament,

c) Reviewing the operation of tournaments with regards to their designation of Satellite, Full, or non-affiliated events,

d) tabulating results from the Circuit events to declare a Provincial Circuit Champion,

e) ensuring the event head referee is qualified,

f) confirming the numbers of referees provided by teams refereeing an event,

g) updating the annual trophies,

h) purchasing the keeper trophies for the top three teams,

i) counseling and advising circuit event hosts regarding deficiencies in their events so that they can correct them prior to having their designation changed.

j) updating or changing the Saskatchewan Provincial Paintball Circuit Operating Policy.

Full Circuit Tournaments:

Promoters who have successfully operated their tournament for two seasons as a Satellite Tournament may apply in writing to the Circuit Directors to have their event designated as a Full Circuit tournament. The addition or removal of tournaments to and from the Circuit is made by unanimous decision of the Circuit Directors.

Satellite and Full Circuit Tournaments must be open to all teams who wish to enter. This does not force a Host/Promoter/ Field Owner to permit to attend the event, individuals who have been banned from his/her facility. However they must notify these individuals of their being refused, upon receiving their registration

Hosts/Promoters/Field owners may not participate in events they are hosting.

Referees:

Teams may score points towards their Circuit Total by refereeing a main circuit event instead of competing. The points scored are based on the following formula. For each referee the team provides they will score 25%(to a maximum of 100%) of either; 80 circuit points, or the average of the circuit points they earned in the other three main events, whichever is higher. Teams providing a registrar/scheduler are deemed to have provided a referee position for the purpose of Circuit points.

The Head Field Referee for any event, Satellite or Main, must have previous experience as a head referee or field referee in a tournament recognized by the Circuit Directors, and have previously played in the event they will be head refereeing. If an event is new it is not required that they have previously played in it. All other referees must have played in at least one Circuit Tournament, preferably the event they will be refereeing.

Awards and Trophies:

The trophies for the Circuit consist of three cup style trophies, and are engraved with the year and team name of each years recipient. These trophies remain in the keeping of the winning team until a new winner has been determined at which point they are returned to the Directors, engraved with the new team name, and presented to the recipients.

Also each recipient team receives a keeper trophy that is theirs to keep.

Funds to pay for the engraving and the keeper trophies are collected from the event promoters over the course of the year's events.

The trophies are presented each year during the Lunch Intermission at the Border War Big Game at Paintball Action Games Asquith.

History:

In 1990 the first Saskatchewan Provincial Speedball Championship tournament was held in Saskatchewan at Paintball Action Games Asquith. It was attended by teams from Saskatoon and Prince Albert. In 1991 the first Santa Anonymous event was held at Paintball Paradise Prince Albert, and was also attended by teams from Saskatoon/Asquith and Prince Albert, while at Paintball Action Games a second tournament was added. This tournament, The Blitz, was attended by teams from Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Regina, and Maidstone. Following this tournament the Paintball Action Games owner (Doug Brecht) contacted the field owners in Regina (Les Engen), and Prince Albert (George Lewko) regarding setting up a Provincial Championship Circuit.

The proposal was that each field would host a tournament as part of the circuit. Teams competing in the circuit events would earn points based on their final placing in the event. Each promoter would determine the type of event they would hold and the rules for their specific tourney. The other circuit promoters would not dictate the type or rules of another host's event. Each event host would collect $1 per person entered in their event to be put into the circuit fund and used to purchase trophies to be awarded at the Big Game in September of each year at Paintball Action Games Asquith. Any changes to the composition of the circuit would require a majority vote of the host promoters to be implemented. In 1992 the first circuit consisted of, The Five Team Capture The Flag Event at Paintball Paradise Regina, the Santa Anonymous Tournament at Paintball Paradise Prince Albert, and The Blitz Center Flag at Paintball Action Games Asquith.

In 1993 it was unanimously agreed to expand the circuit to four events by adding the Moosehorn Center Flag Tournament at Kevin Garrett's field in Maidstone. In 1994 the tournament at Paintball Action Games Asquith was changed from the Blitz to the Stock Classic. The circuit now consisted of a Center Flag Event in Maidstone, a Hi-Tech Capture The Flag Event in Regina, a Four Team Punch Out Event in Prince Albert, and a Stock Class Capture The Flag in Asquith.

In 1996, due to a number of unfortunate incidents it was agreed by a majority of the Hosts that the circuit should be reduced to three tournaments, and the Regina event was removed from the circuit.

In 1998, the circuit hosts were approached by Trent Armitage in regards to adding a Share Charity 3-Man Speedball tournament to the circuit. The event had been held in 1997 in the city of Prince Albert. With this addition the circuit consisted of 2 charity and 2 non-charity events. In 1999 the Share Speedball Event was moved from Prince Albert City to the site of Paintball Paradise Prince Albert with Trent Armitage continuing to operate as Promoter. The Paintball Action Games Asquith Stock Classic was designated as a charity event and changed to Lotech. The Moosehorn Center Flag was also changed to a charity event supporting a local youth group. It was felt that this was in keeping with the spirit of the circuit, which was not to make money for the hosts, but to promote the various aspects of the sport of paintball, and to demonstrate that the sport worked to benefit its local communities.

In 2000 Trent Armitage retired completely from paintball and hosting of the Share 3-Man Speedball Event was turned over to George Lewko, since the event was already located at his field.

In spring of 2000 Kevin Garrett also retired from paintball. This left the circuit reduced to 3 events. To maintain four events in the series the Saskatchewan Provincial Speedball Championship was added. This event had a proven record of longevity, running every year since 1990, and as the entry fees were not being kept by the host promoter it met the criterion for a circuit tournament.

In 2001 the Paintball Action Games Asquith Lo-tech Classic was returned to it's original designation as Stock Class by the host, and it was announced that the Saskatchewan Provincial Speedball Championship event would become a charity event for 2002.

This has resulted in the current circuit consisting of; The Saskatchewan Provincial Speedball Championship 50/50 Charity Event, the Santa Anonymous Charity Event, The Charity Stock Classic, and the Share Charity 3-Man Speedball Event. As of January 2001 there are two Circuit Directors, Doug Brecht and George Lewko.
